Rear Adm. Jeff Scheidt, commander, Naval Information Warfighting Development Center (NIWDC), presented Lt. Aaron Frunzi, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kennon Reine, Senior Chief Cryptologic Technician Kristalina Greene and Chief Cryptologic Technician Momar Shirley with a Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) patch from NIWDC during a recent ceremony to recognize their achievements, April 5.

“NIWDC’s WTI program continues to grow and today marks another step forward for our community. The modern security environment will be shaped by significant global information systems and will be a fight for decision superiority in a time of conflict. We count on our patch-wearers, with their increased levels of knowledge and operational experience, to maximize the Fleet’s integration of information warfare to meet these dynamic challenges with agility and urgency,” said Scheidt.

“As the first naval flight officer to earn an information warfare WTI patch, I am both honored and humbled to be among the first information warfare WTIs; I have a front-line view of the importance of cross-domain integration with all of the warfighting development centers to increase tactical proficiency, capability, and lethality of the fleet,” said Frunzi.

“These newly patched WTIs represent a continued investment in the lethality of our fleet. I’m extremely proud of their accomplishments and their efforts will serve the nation well!” said Scheidt.

NIWDC WTIs are Information Warfare Community officers, senior enlisted and civilians who completed advanced training and developed tactical expertise across all IW mission areas - command and control/cyberspace operations (C2/CO), electronic warfare (EW), intelligence operations (INTEL Ops), information operations (IO), space, and meteorology and oceanography (METOC).

Similar to other warfighting development centers, NIWDC's mission includes training and assessing information warfare forces in advanced tactics, techniques and procedures at the individual, unit, integrated, advanced, and joint levels, ensuring alignment with the information warfare training continuum.

NIWDC is located on board Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads. NIWDC leverages the advantages of a multi-domain environment, shifting from traditional platform-centric warfare tactics toward an integrated approach that capitalizes on warfighting power in multiple domains at sea and on shore and is comprised of five directorates in Virginia and California.
