    Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One

Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) announced in a message to the force on March 26 that every Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Group One subordinate command received the 2018 “Green H” Award for excellence in medical readiness.

The “Green H” Award recognizes those commands that enhance battle readiness by promoting the health, fitness and mental well-being of active duty Sailors and encourage participation in health promotion activities.

EOD Group One, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) One, EODMU Three, EODMU Five, EODMU Eleven, EOD Expeditionary Support Unit (EODESU) One, EOD Training and Evaluation Unit One and Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) One all received the award this year and are eligible to display a green “H” in a prominent place on their buildings or the quarterdeck at their command headquarters.

In the message, Rear Adm. Brian Brakke, commander, NECC, said, “Congratulations to all units receiving the ‘Green H’ award. Your continued effort and hard work achieving your command and Navy’s mission is outstanding. Your dedication and professionalism is leading the way for Navy expeditionary medicine.”

EODESU One, the logistics support command for all EOD Group One units, plays a unique role in ensuring the Navy EOD community receives the medical care they need. The command maintains its own medical department that provides routine medical care stateside but can also deploy as required to serve and support EOD units. Among their other duties, the medical department is specialized to support fleet diving operations, diagnose and treat diving related illnesses and injuries, support hyperbaric chamber operations, and evaluate fitness for diving duty.

“The ‘Green H’ is awarded to recognize those operational units and supporting commands for excellence in health promotions, disease prevention, operational medical readiness and medical training. Not an easy award to obtain, it is of substance and a testament to our leadership that all eight units within our EOD Group One claimancy were awarded this year,” said Hospital Corpsman Master Chief Petty Officer Jason Duty, the senior enlisted leader of EODGRU One’s medical department. “This is EOD Group One’s sixth consecutive year receiving the award, and we are already planning our way forward for another consecutive year here in 2019. We would like to continue this trend, for the award's sake, but more so for the benefits and positive outcomes we've seen in implementing positive and healthy changes for our Sailors.”

U.S. Navy EOD is the world's premier combat force for countering explosive hazards and conducting expeditionary diving and salvage. EODGRU1 is responsible for manning, training, and equipping seven subordinate units.
