USS Mobile Bay Completes Visit to UAE

The guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) completed a port visit to Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, March 29.

The port visit provided Sailors a chance to explore the many landmarks that the Emirates has to offer, while also giving them a chance to unwind.

“The purpose of the port visit was to allow the crew to have some well-deserved liberty, as well as make repairs to some of Mobile Bay’s equipment,” said Capt. Robert Bryans Jr., commanding officer of Mobile Bay. “We were conducting carrier strike operations and keeping the crew busy, so this was a much needed break.”

The visit provided a chance for Sailors to explore and shop, while also taking in sights like the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa.

“I really enjoyed this port visit,” said Operations Specialist 3rd Class Thomas Shoemaker, from Jacksonville, Florida. “Dubai provided me a chance to see the Burj Khalifa and experience the Dubai Mall. The coolest part about the mall was seeing an ice rink and an aquarium right next to the stores.”

The John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the
Mediterranean and the Pacific Ocean through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
