America's First Corps Commander, Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky, hosted a "Courage Honor Ceremony" March 25, 2019, to bid farewell to outgoing I Corps Deputy Commanding General for Operations, Canadian Brig. Gen. Michel-Henri St.-Louis, and welcome Canadian Brig. Gen. Stephane Boivin as the new DCG-O for America's First Corps.

“When the Canadian Army first told [my wife and I] that we were coming here we were ecstatic,” St.-Louis said. “But I was not ready for the two-year internship program at the Voles Advanced Warfare Academy. The VAWA, an acronym I just made up, gave all of us who took classes the opportunity to train and be ready to fight.”

The description of his time at JBLM was met by laughter from the crowd and even put a smile on Volesky’s face.
St.-Louis went on to say that as his internship comes to an end it was the best warfare school he ever attended.

Canadian general officers have served an integral role as part of America's First Corps since 2008. It is a bi-lateral partnership where both countries gain valuable experience and learn from each other.

During his remarks, Boivin thanked St.- Louis for helping him prepare for his tenure as the new DCG-O.
“Mike, as you are about to deploy, thank you for your detailed hand over and hopefully ensuing a seamless transmission and continued success,” Boivin said.

St.-Louis will return to the Canadian Armed Forces as the Commander of Joint Task Force Impact.

He said he is proud of the work he’s done at I Corps and will remember his time at JBLM fondly.

“It is with a heavy heart that I will take the U.S. flag and I Corps patches of my uniform tonight. But here today, one last time I end by saying with pride: America’s First Corps. Courage.”
