This week we are republishing a story that appeared on our pages on this date in history from the 1977 edition. We hope it will give you an appreciation for our Corps. Today’s article is a column written about “Two radio battalion Marines receive Navy commendation medals for saving a life.”

Two 2d Radio Battalion Marines received Navy Commendation Medals in a ceremony August 17, 1977 at Camp Geiger.
Corporal David G. Dubey, Company B, was cited for saving the life of a sailor in Puerto Rico in February.
Lieutenant Colonel Robert B. Wilson, battalion commanding officer, received his medal for his performance of duties as Division Communications Electronics Officer the past three years.
The citation accompanying Dubey’s award read in part “…Assistance was requested for an injured sailor who while at the beach awaiting return to his ship, began hyperventilating and having convulsions. Corporal Dubey unhesitatingly and with complete confidence moved in, evaluated the situation and took control.
“At Camp Garcia he continuously and skillfully aided the corpsmen until the victim was air evacuated; twice reviving the victim with mouth to mouth resuscitation when he stopped breathing completely.”
“His courage, decisiveness and selfless actions, reflect great credit on himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.”
LtCol. Wilson’s citation accompanying his medal read “…Through his personal efforts the communication security posture of the division was improved during the past three years and he was a driving force in implementing the daily changing frequency and call sign system.”
“…exceptional professional ability, total devotion to duty, and superb knowledge of tactical communications reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions off the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.”
