    Navy and Marine Corps Force Health Protection Command

    An awards ceremony was held at the 2019 Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Conference, March 26 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Va. “It is a pleasure to recognize all award winners. To be nominated for all of these awards is a real honor and to be awarded is to be among the best of the best,” shared Capt. Robert Hawkins, deputy commander, Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC). Awards were presented by Rear Adm. Terry Moulton, U.S. Navy, deputy surgeon general and deputy chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Capt. Todd Wagner, commander, NMCPHC, Capt. Robert Hawkins, Master Chief Hospital Corpsman Marsha Burmeister, command master chief, NMCPHC, to the following nine individuals for individual excellence and career contributions to their perspective fields:

    -Lt. Cmdr. Amy Rogers, medical corps (MC), United States Navy (USN), received the 2018 Charles S. Stephenson Award.
    -Ms. Monica Schutt received the 2018 Capt. Earnest W. Brown Award.
    -Capt. Lisa Pearse, MC, USN, received the 2018 Vice Adm. Richard A. Nelson Award.
    -Lt. Andrew Hoy, Military Sealift Command (MSC), USN received the award for 2018 Radiation Health Officer of the Year.
    -Lt. Cmdr. Jeffrey Hertz, MSC, USN received the award for 2018 Entomologist of the Year.
    -Lt. Christopher Olson, MSC, USN received the award for 2018 Environmental Health Officer of the Year.
    -Lt. Cmdr. Nicholas Schaal, MSC, USN received the award for 2018 Industrial Hygiene Officer of the Year.
    -Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer 2ND Class (HM2) Kyle Wardlow received the award for 2018 Radiation Health Technician of the Year.
    -Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer 1ST Class (HM1) Fleet Marine Forces (FMF) Dean Castaneda received the 2018 HMCM Stephen Brown Preventive Medicine Technician of the Year Award.

    “I was impressed that my chain of command submitted me in the first place. It showed that they recognize the importance of health and wellness in the Navy,” said Monica Schutt, recipient of the Capt. Earnest W. Brown Award.

    The theme of this year's conference, "The Future of Naval Force Health Protection in a Changing Landscape," has brought together more than 515 members of the public health community. It presented the perfect opportunity to show appreciation and respect for these nine hardworking contributors to Navy public health.
