    Story by Steven Stover

    U.S. Army Cyber Command

    Hometown: Saylorsburg, Pa.
Military Occupational Specialty: Signals Intelligence Analyst (MOS 35N)
Duty position: 01 National Mission Team, B Company, 781st Military Intelligence Battalion (Cyber), Fort George G. Meade, Md.

    QUICK SKETCH:
    - Earned titles of 780th Military Intelligence Brigade Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for 2019 and Brigade Best Warrior (NCO)
    - Has a bachelor's degree in Criminology from the Pennsylvania State University and an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Northampton Community College
    - Future goal is to earn a master’s degree in Homeland Security and become a brigade command sergeant major

ON WHY HE JOINED THE ARMY:
“I was graduating from college and I thought that I wanted to be a police officer, but after interning with the police department and working with another I realized this isn’t exactly what I want to do. I didn’t want to be that graduate without a job lined up, so two months before graduation I went into the recruiter’s office and asked him, ‘What are my options?’ and ‘What can I do?’…I joined the Army for the opportunities that this MOS can provide during and after the military. Another reason I joined is to be a part of something bigger than just myself and experience what few people do.”

ON HIS NEAR- AND LONG-TERM GOALS
“My near-term goal is to be JQR (Job Qualification Record) trained in my work role with the Cyber National Mission Force. Long term, I want to complete my master’s degree in Homeland Security and I want to have a family -- that is very important to me.”

ON WHY HE COMPETED IN THE 780TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BRIGADE’S BEST WARRIOR COMPETITION:
“It is an honor to not only represent my company, but now the battalion. I believe the (Army’s Best Warrior Competition) makes you a better Soldier because of the dedication and time that has to go in to competing in the BWC. While not only performing your everyday job, you are constantly studying and preparing for the next level. I definitely believe the competition instills discipline, because if you are not properly preparing you are not going to succeed. This also allows you to be a knowledgeable leader that Soldiers can go to for advice and questions.”

ON HIS GOALS FOR THE BEST WARRIOR COMPETITION:
“My goals for the BWC (were) to give it 100 percent and do the best that I can. I cannot ask for more than that and hopefully that will be what it takes to win at the next level. It is also important to remember to have fun throughout the competition; even though some of the events and task are dreadful, you have to make the most of it. I (was) focusing on preparing for the board and more Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills.”

    FAVORITE QUOTE:
“'Never give up' is a simple but powerful quote that I have always tried to live by. Taking adversity head-on can be challenging at times, but being able to persevere through it shows willingness to accomplish anything that you set your mind to."
