Teamwork and Innovation Enhance Readiness in Europe

ZIELONA GORA, Poland – Soldiers from the 101st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade
Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division delivered critical supplies at the airport here on Mar. 14, 2019.
Leaders from the 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. coordinated with multiple U.S. Army Europe organizations, the
Romanian military, and Polish civilian aviation professionals to incorporate air transport into their
logistics plan, speeding distribution of critical supplies to units in disparate locations.
“We’re proving that we can overcome logistical challenges in Europe,” said Maj. Joshua Dawson, the
brigade aviation officer from 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. “The lifeblood of an armored brigade is maintenance.
We now have these systems in place, and we’re better suited to respond to a crisis.”
Maj. Dawson led the effort to leverage air assets in the European theater to ensure timely delivery of
critical supplies. He worked closely with the 101st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. to
    develop and implement the plan.
Capt. Paul Kim, the Support Operations Officer for the 101st BSB played a critical role working with
Polish civil aviation professionals to ensure supplies are delivered efficiently, safely, and legally. Today’s
flight marked the third overall, the first mission took place on Mar. 11.
“So far both missions have been effective,” said Capt. Kim. “We have units spread out between five
different countries, each with their own policies and restrictions. It’s our job to ensure 1st Brigade units
have the supplies they need to be ready to fight. We’ll continue this practice and pass it on for future
    units assigned to Europe.”
The flight from Poland took off in the morning and landed in Romania in the afternoon. Soldiers from
the 1st Battalion 16th Infantry Regiment were ready and waiting to download the supplies and put them
    into operation.
“The delivery of these parts from the 101st BSB ensures that we’ve got what we need to accomplish our
mission,” said Sgt. Joseph Randolph, 1st. Bn. 16th Inf. Regt, 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div.
The 1st ABCT is part of more than 6,000 U.S. regionally allocated Soldiers in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary,
Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania, on a nine-month rotation, in support of Atlantic Resolve.
