Quarterhorse Soldiers learn Polish history
Świętoszów, Poland -- Over 100 Soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment out of Fort Riley, Kan., and others attended two sessions of a Polish history presentation given by members of the Polish military -- Maj. Zbigniew Zielonka, PhD and Cmdr. Krzysztof Ruminski, Feb. 26.
“Honor and freedom are the most vital to the Polish people.” Maj. Zielonka spoke about what are some of the most important takeaways from his presentation and what he hoped the U.S. Soldiers would remember. “Our history are the struggles for independence being in a difficult geographical location between two powerful nations; Russia and Germany.”
This presentation given by the Polish was first used to build relations with U.S. forces in theaters like Afghanistan but has seen usage for over two years now as the U.S. forces participate in Atlantic Resolve. Maj. Zielonka also recommended several places in Poland to visit during the 1/4 Cav rotation in Poland.
In his final remarks Maj. Zielonka said, “American soldiers should visit concentration camps near Kraków and Lublin, the museum of solidarity in Gdańsk, Warsow is the capital and has many museums, Kraków’s buildings were not damaged during WWII and was historic Polish capital.”
