The guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) arrived in Laem Chebang, Thailand, for a scheduled port visit, Feb. 10.
The visit provided Sailors a chance to unwind and explore the area.
“The purpose of the port visit was to allow the Sailors to refresh and recharge their batteries after several weeks at sea,” said Command Master Chief Nicholas Berryman, Mobile Bay’s senior enlisted advisor. “A big reason a lot of our Sailors joined the Navy was to see the world, so it was a great opportunity to pull into Laem Chebang.”
Sailors were provided opportunities to explore new foods, immerse themselves in the culture, and visit unique landmarks.
“The port visit was great, we went to the Sanctuary of Truth and got the opportunity to ride elephants,” said Sonar Technician (Surface) 2nd Class Chinaka Thomas, from Oxcard, California. “It was a little nerve racking, but it was a great experience.”
Thomas, along with other Sailors, utilized this visit to relax and rest from the long underway.
“The visit gave people peace of mind,” said Thomas. “It’s nice to recharge and get ourselves mentally ready for the work ahead.”
