MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Marine Corps Community Services is hosting an Aviation Job Fair at the Career Resource Center on Marine Corps Air Station New River, March 6, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, in January 2018, more than 553,000 people in the United States experienced homelessness on a daily basis and six percent of those individuals were veterans. This can be a harsh reality for service members but it serves as a reminder to not discount those the opportunities available before transitioning out of the military.
Event attendees are advised to dress in professional attire and have several copies of their resume on hand. Due to the nature of the event, children are restricted from attending.
MCCS also recommends doing research ahead of time to learn about the companies that will be at the event, along with the jobs they are offering. Employers may conduct an interview on the spot if the attendee meets qualifications.
“Whether you're transitioning from active duty within a few weeks or have a couple years left until separation, it is always beneficial to attend events with employers,” said Danelle Strang, personal and professional development advisor supervisor, Marine and Family Programs. “Networking is very important for researching future opportunities and building strong connections.”
The job fair is tailored to aviation-specific occupations-- from pilots and mechanics, to a variety of support positions. It will allow those seeking employment to speak with company representatives directly.
“A few of the many benefits of attending job fairs is for job seekers to speak with multiple employment recruiters in one location; provide a memorable first impression; put in action their ‘elevator pitch’ they've been (hopefully) practicing and walk away feeling comfortable and confident with their job search,” Strang said.
The event will have companies such as Southwest Airlines, PSA Airlines, Envoy Air, Vertex Aerospace, and HAECO Americas. To see the full list of companies participating, visit http://www.mccslejeune-newriver.com/trs/.
