WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. (NNS) -- Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Whidbey Island First Class Petty Officers Association (FCPOA) donated military uniforms to support state and national U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC), Feb. 22.

NIOC Whidbey Island FCPOA, along with the Naval Ocean Processing Facility (NOPF) and Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron One (VQ-1) first class messes, facilitated the collection of serviceable uniforms to support the local Sea Cadet unit, the Orion Squadron.

“I have worked with the Sea Cadets at prior duty stations,” said Cryptologic Technician (Technical) 1st Class Alexander Jones, NIOC Whidbey Island FCPOA representative and co-leader of the uniform collection efforts. “A group of us were talking about how the blueberries were going to go to waste and the idea to donate them to the Sea Cadets came up. From that point, Petty Officer Kiper and myself coordinated with USNSCC leadership to see if they had a need.”

The clothing drive gained traction during an FCPOA luncheon, this past year. Since then, Sailors have amassed and donated more than 450 uniform items including pants, blouses, gloves, covers, jackets and smaller items such as ribbon racks to the Orion Squadron.

“The Orion Squadron greatly appreciates the efforts of Petty Officer Kiper and Jones,” said Maurice Davis, a USNSCC Officer. “The donations are extremely helpful for our cadre to lead our program, and support other U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps programs throughout the United States. Our program strives to foster a culture of patriotism, community service, discipline and strong moral character. The clothing drive facilitated by the local FCPOA is a real world example of these values and a prime example for the cadets.”

The donation assists the USNSCC in promoting interest and skills in naval disciplines while instilling strong moral character and life skills through leadership and technical programs modeled after the Navy’s professional development system.

“We’re happy to see that the donations collected are helping out,” said Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Kenneth Kiper, NIOC Whidbey Island FCPOA representative and co-leader of the uniform collection efforts. “With the Navy’s uniform shift to the Type III, we are especially glad to see the life extension of the Type I and that they are going to a great cause.”

NIOC Whidbey Island executes analysis, planning, and direct support augmentation to naval air and surface forces engaged in operations worldwide as a subordinate to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F).

FCC is responsible for Navy information network operations, offensive and defensive cyberspace operations, space operations and signals intelligence. C10F is the operational arm of Fleet Cyber Command and executes its mission through a task force structure similar to other warfare commanders. In this role, C10F provides support of Navy and joint missions in cyber/networks, cryptologic/signals intelligence and space.
