WASHINGTON – Army Materiel Command’s deputy chief of staff for personnel was presented with the Senior Executive Service Leadership Special Recognition Award for his personal and professional commitment to the Army’s Diversity and Leadership initiatives during an annual conference for global competitiveness.
Max Wyche received the award from Marshall Williams, principle deputy assistant secretary of the Army for manpower and reserve affairs, during the Black Engineer of the Year Award Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (BEYA STEM) Global Competitive Conference’s Modern-Day Technology Recognition Awards Ceremony and Luncheon, Feb. 8.
“Our workforce is very diverse,” said Wyche. “We want people’s opinions to be heard. We want people to feel empowered. We want our leaders to be accountable to groom our workforce and provide the right management.”
Wyche said he was honored to be recognized and considers it a validation of not only his work, but the overall efforts at Army Materiel Command.
“Diversity and inclusion is just one piece of AMC’s human capital campaign, which is focused on the total force personnel,” said Wyche. “Overall, the human capital campaign is about getting 100 percent of the people doing 100 percent of the right work, which is primarily what the award was based on.”
Army Materiel Command is looking to cultivate talent and grow leaders within the organization, making sure employees are receiving the right training and development opportunities to succeed in their current positions, Wyche said.
“Max is the epitome of the ultimate professional civilian who consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership, professionalism, dedication and a genuine concern for the welfare of our Soldiers, civilians and their families,” said Lisha Adams, AMC executive deputy to the commanding general.
His efforts to inspire and develop excellence in diversity, leadership and STEM programs have had a positive impact across the AMC footprint, she said.
“Max’s passion for people and deep commitment to excellence sends a message of strength and hope to our workforce,” said Adams. “His sense of duty and selfless service are unquestioned. He has earned complete respect and admiration across the Army and Army Materiel Command.”
Wyche’s development of the AMC human capital campaign plan and championing of AMC’s line of effort for Soldiers and people showcases his commitment to the health and wellness of the workforce, she said.
For Wyche, ensuring the Army Materiel command workforce is ready, trained and equipped is essential to the command’s mission of providing materiel readiness and sustainability to our Soldiers.
“There is a lot of great work done across the materiel enterprise,” he said. “I’m merely a leader who is serving alongside a lot of great people who are committed to ensuring our workforce has the tools and training they need in order to be successful now and in the future.”
