Ready set, hike! The U.S. Army Reserve's Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), Special Troops Battalion, 300th Sustainment Brigade, hosted a Super Bowl sporting event in preparation for the big game at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait on February 2, 2019. The event pitted teams of four Soldiers against one another in a friendly competition consisting of a one-mile run, speed and agility drills, punting, and a touchdown victory dance.
“Since I'm not a big fan of long runs, I decided to go a different route when organizing this event and have a shorter run, and add in some field events…more fun less runs,” exclaimed Staff Sgt. Simon Perez, the event organizer.
The event was designed to increase the unit’s esprit de corps and build a strong team. According to Capt. Diego Hernandez, HHC commander, “the event was an absolute success, Soldier from different sections worked seamlessly together, provided maximum effort and let their competitive spirit shine. New bonds were built and the unit cohesion was strengthened.”
Hernandez also said that “the morale and welfare of our Soldiers is one of our top priorities, we believe that engaging in events other than work with our Soldiers creates a team mentality that is selfless and works together to achieve a common goal.”
Perez said that “my favorite part was just seeing everybody enjoying themselves.” Hernandez echoed the same with “my favorite part was the bonding and team building that transpired throughout the event. Many of the Army Values were well represented through leadership, respect, selfless service, and honor.”
Being far away from home is never easy, but the Soldiers of the 300th Sustainment Brigade continue to remind one another that they are a team and will always look after each other.
