HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, NM, UNITED STATES

Senior leadership from the Royal Netherlands Air Force toured the 49th Wing, Feb. 1, 2019, to visit two Dutch pilots and two sensor operators in the MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft training program here.

The RNLAF bought four MQ-9 Reapers recently as well as other mission oriented equipment for more than 300 million dollars and train their MQ-9 Reaper pilots and sensor operators at Holloman.

“You guys have shown us a great deal of hospitality here,” said Lt. Gen. Dennis Luyt, Royal Netherlands Air Force commander. “It has been a great visit.”

The visit brought the Chief of Defense of the Netherlands, Royal Netherlands Air Force commander, Defense Attaché of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, Defense Attache of the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands – and others to tour the 6th Attack Squadron and 16th Training Squadron. They observed the premier training their Airmen have learned.

“We have been here since the beginning of December and will leave in May,” said Maj. Martin, Netherlands 306th Squadron director of operations. “Holloman is a good place to train with the MQ-9...”

The RNLAF has been training here since December 2018, and base leadership was excited for the opportunity to offer integrated pilot training to a valued coalition partner. The Netherlands have been an ally to the United States since the American Revolution.

“Training foreign allies is a core mission based on building effective forces,” said Col. Joseph Campo, 49th Wing commander. “Visits are critical for both of us because if we are familiar with each other, our partnership capabilities will be much stronger.”
