    11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade

By: Staff Sgt. Brian O. Gayle, Btry. A, 2nd Bn., 43rd ADA Regt., 11th ADA Bde

Brigadier General Clement S. Coward Jr., Commander, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, and Sergeant Major Jerry E. Jacobitz, Command Sergeant Major, 32nd AAMDC, conducted their visit and observation of the latest system configuration recieved by 2nd Batallion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bliss 16 January, 2019.

Lt. Col. J. Brennon Kavanaugh, commander, 2-43 ADA BN and Command Sgt. Maj. Erik Bernal, command sergeant major, 2-43 ADA BN, and 2-43 ADA BN Battery command teams greeted the 32nd AAMDC command teams at the 2-43 ADA BN motorpool.

1st Lt. Zachary Hartzell, Tactical Director, 2-43 ADA BN, began the visit with a brief of the 2-43 ADA BN New Equipment Training Schedule and visit to each training classroom. The 2-43 ADA BN NET training scheduled from early January to late February allows all of 2-43 ADA BN Soldiers with a 14 series or 25 series military occupation code, MOS, an opportunity to learn about the latest system upgrade called the Post Deployment Build 8, or PDB-8. Raytheon personnel worked with the 2-43 ADA BN to develop a hands-on teaching experience for the Soldiers that will be operating the new technology within the upcoming training and deployment preparations. The walkthrough continued to the new equipment staged in the Warrior Battalion motorpool.

The upgraded PDB-8 equipment was recieved as a a part of the RECAP process that begain in early May for the Warrior Batallion and is on-going. The process enables Soldiers to recieve the most advanced equipment by exchanging older pieces of the Patriot defense system.

"Alpha Battery (2-43 ADA BN) is the first battery to recieve all of the equipment back from RECAP," stated Sgt. Terry Mason, Tactical Control Assistant, Battery A., 2-43 ADA BN.

Sgt. Mason and his crew members, 1st Lt. Jasmine S. Greinke, Tactical Control Officer, and Spc. Austin Winans, Communication Specialist, briefed the 32nd AAMDC commander on the significant hardware, software, and communication upgrades that came with the PDB-8 Engagement Control Station. The modern man-station is not unfamiliar to the crew as they have been preparing for the implementation of the new changes before their redeployment earlier last year.

"During deployment, we utilized the Reconfigured Table Tob Trainer labs known as RT3, equipped with the modern man-stations, so that we could emphasize training and focus on the software upgrades once we redeployed," briefed 1st Lt. Greinke.

The command teams continued the visit of the new equipment in the Warrior BN motorpool with the upgraded Radar Set, Electronic Power Plant, and Lauching Stations. Each piece has recieved individual improvements that mitigate time and enhance the overall force as the system evolves with near-peer adversaries.

"The M903 Lauching Station allows for various configurations that have sped up the reload process and have made it more efficient overall," said Pvt. First Class Colton E. Pickering, Battery A., 2-43 ADA BN.

The Patriot Advanced Capabilities 3 Missie Segment Enhancement, or PAC-3 MSE, missile gives us more advanced capabilities within the Warrior Batallion. Staff Sgt. Brian Gayle, section chief, Battery A., 2-43 ADA BN, elaborated on the necessary safety procedures that are strictly adhered to as part of the newly developed training standards.

The Warrior Batallion was grateful to have the opportunity to demonstrate to to the 32nd AAMDC command teams the training developments and enhanced situational awarenss within the unit as a result of the continuing advancements in the Patriot defense system.
