SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Sailors from the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Goodfellow visited with residents at Brayden Park Assisted Living & Memory Care, San Angelo, Texas, Feb. 1.

The facility features 77 apartments — 60 assisted living and 17 memory care apartments — and offers assistance with activities of daily living, transportation and common areas for social and recreational activities.

As an initiative under the Navy’s Sailor 360 program, CIWT Det. Goodfellow Sailors thought it would be a great idea to “build on the basics” by giving back to the San Angelo community and become more involved with its citizens. The Sailor 360 program is a command-developed training program designed to enrich the professional development of its enlisted Sailors, and leaders have the flexibility to tailor existing source material to best fit their observed needs.

Prior to arriving at Brayden Park, the Sailors received an overview and expectations from Aviation Boatswains Mate (Handling) 1st Class Jessica Norman, CIWT Det. Goodfellow’s Sailor 360 volunteer coordinator.

Once there, the Sailors broke off into groups, exchanged life experiences with the residents, learned where many of them were from and shared many laughs. Brayden Park staff provided food and beverages for the group, and one of the residents celebrated her 101st birthday. Needless to say, she was very excited about having a large group of Sailors to celebrate the monumental birthday.

“This was a great time for the Navy det. to socialize and meet members of our community,” said Aviation Boatswains Mate (Handling) 1st Class Travis Starr. “Hopefully, we can make it out to visit more often,”

Before leaving, a group photo was taken and handshakes were exchanged.

“The residents absolutely love it when the Sailors come out to visit,” shared Kathy Bender, Brayden Park’s event coordinator. “It helps the morale and encourages the residents be more sociable within the community. They have an opportunity to talk with the military other than their families, in which they talk to on a regular basis."

CIWT Det. Goodfellow, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
