U.S. Army Soldiers with the 70th Movement Control Team, 49th Movement Control Battalion, 16th Sustainment Brigade, 21st Theater Support Command support military movement operations for personnel and supplies moving through Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, Romania.
The logistics support the 70th MCT provides allows U.S. Army units operating in the Black Sea region the ability to train alongside their NATO allies & partners and also conduct exercises that deter aggression in Europe.
“I think an equally critical aspect of our mission is that we are facilitating integrated partnership with our allies, and I think it sends a strong message of our coordination and support for each other,” said Capt. Martin Ursitti, commander of the 70th Movement Control Team.
The logistics planning the 70th MCT provides allows for freedom of movement for USAREUR forces and resources. The 70th MCT reduces movement complexity by providing a command designed specifically to synchronize movement operations. They accomplish this by facilitating customs operations and providing passenger terminal services.
“It is critical that we have logistics to sustain the warfighters that are conducting training operations in AR south, and provide them with much needed material and resources,” said Ursitti. “Primarily, logistics allows for Soldiers to operate in an environment uninhibited in regard to their access to critical supplies they need, so when there is material needed to conduct missions, they have it.”
Supporting logistics operations for combined training exercises in the Black Sea Region has also allowed the 70th MCT to assist other movement control teams throughout Atlantic Resolve South.
“We have supported a number of named training operations while we have been here,” said Ursitti. “We have also been able to support the Mihail Kogălniceanu Airbase installation as far as movement of personnel in and out of the installation as well as supporting some of our sister MCT operations.”
