KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – Team Kirtland hosted a senior spouse immersion tour here Jan. 15, 2019.
The tour included visits to key areas around base, and was capped off with a working lunch attended by speakers from key organizations, including the Chapel and a brief by the 377th Force Support Squadron commander.
As senior leaders rotate into positions of command with Team Kirtland, spouses take on the task of advocating for an assisting Airmen and families. This is in line with the 377th Air Base Wing and Air Force Global Strike Command commitment to meet the needs of Airmen and their families with services and tools to welcome and sustain people during their tenures at Kirtland.
After each presenter, the spouses were given the chance to ask questions and elaborations on topics helping them expand their knowledge of the base and community.
“If you know what the mission is, then you’re better equipped to help family members with the challenges they may face,” said Wylisha Roy, an attendee of the tour. “Now, having learned more about agencies on base, if there is a spouse or someone in the community that is looking for help, I’ll better know how to assist them.”
Assisting families is a key role of command-level spouses, and base tours can provide a unique learning opportunity.
“If you have a chance to get out and see what’s happening in the community, you should take it,” said Roy. “If you want to be an active member of the community, it is good to know what is going on.”
