HULMAN FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ind. (Jan. 6, 2019) — Several no-cost Strong Bonds events will be organized by the 181st Intelligence Wing Religious Support Team, in coordination with the base Human Performance Team, during 2019.

The events will include those designed for singles and couples within the 181st IW community.

Strong Bonds is a unit-based, chaplain-led program that assists commanders in building individual resiliency by strengthening military families.

“National Guard Bureau has championed the program,” said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jeremy Nelson, a chaplain’s assistant assigned to the 181st Intelligence Wing. “They recognized that deployments are stressful on relationships, and they are especially stressful on deployers.”

The first event of the year, titled Got Your Back, is designed for single Airmen and is scheduled to occur March 8 to 10 in Indianapolis. The event is designed to promote skills and principles considered essential to having good relationships of all kinds, including work, family, friends and romantic relationships.

A second event, titled Fearless Marriage, is designed for couples and is scheduled to occur August 23 to 25 in Indianapolis. The event includes a curriculum specifically written for married military couples, and promotes communications skills, relationship support, and planning for the future.

Both events include free hotel accommodations, parking and food.

The 181st Religious Support Team also hopes to schedule additional Strong Bonds events in 2019, said Nelson.

“The important part of all of this is giving people tools to navigate life, be it single or married,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Willie Hodges, a chaplain’s assistant assigned to the 181st Intelligence Wing.

Airmen may contact the 181st Religious Support Team at (812) 877-5117 for more information.
