PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --
(This story is part three of four of 1st Lt Adam Kriete, 337th Air Control Squadron student, and his family coming to Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. from Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.)
1st Lt. Adam Kriete, his wife Heather, and their friend Carlos Diaz, travelled from Patrick AFB to Tyndall AFB early Friday morning.
Five hours.
They had a mission. They knew the gates were open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
They had to drop off their supplies at the Youth Center, and see what was salvageable in their own home after Hurricane Michael.
After dropping off supplies to Airmen and their families, they headed to their street, moving past uprooted trees and twisted metal.
Fearing the worst, they were relieved to see some siding missing and an A/C unit tipped over.
Inside the home was a different story.
Mold had started to thrive in the hot and humid house. Mold damaged things they held close to them.
Where to start? What’s salvageable?
As soon as the time had started at 10 a.m., it was almost 3 p.m.
The Kriete family would have to leave soon and they weren’t finished retrieving items from the place they had made so many memories.
However, this wasn’t the only day they could come back to their home.
Tyndall AFB is scheduled to open again for residents to come and grab items from their homes in the upcoming weeks.
After the Krietes finished loading up their truck, they headed back to their temporary home at Patrick AFB.
