Alabama native Capt. Anthony Dowdell is the new commander of Huntsville Recruiting Company.
Dowdell succeeded Capt. Doel Salcedo in a ceremony Friday at Quantum Research International in Huntsville, an Army Partnership for Youth Success Program partner. Lt. Col. Keyes Metcalf, commander of Montgomery Recruiting Battalion, presided.
“It is no secret that the success of the Montgomery Recruiting Battalion hinges on the Huntsville formation,” Metcalf said. Using a rucksack analogy, he said, “Capt. Salcedo and the Huntsville Company always led from the front and carried their fair share.”
Over the past 22 months, the Huntsville Company contributed 872 of the 4,437 new Soldiers enlisted by the battalion.
Salcedo, a graduate of the University of Central Florida who commissioned through ROTC, has commanded the recruiting company since July 2016. He is moving on to 1st Cavalry Division’s Sustainment Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas.
“As I look back over the past 21 months on how far the company has come and accomplished, it will be thrilling to see what will occur over the next 24,” Salcedo said. He thanked the Soldiers, among others, for their dedication and loyalty.
Dowdell, a University of Alabama graduate who played football for the Crimson Tide, commissioned through the Officer Candidate School. He is coming to Huntsville from his last assignment as the detachment commander, Bravo Company, 7th Psychological Battalion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
“This is my first time being home for an entire spring in three years,” Dowdell said. “I am extremely blessed and humbled to be taking over the Huntsville Recruiting Company. Capt. Salcedo is leaving behind an enormous pair of shoes. I look forward to enlisting the future of the Army.”
Dowdell and his wife have two children.
