Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base was awarded the 2019 Installation Excellence Award-Small Category.

“The efforts and successes of the installation team have made NAS Fort Worth JRB the best small base in the Navy, supporting the Fleet, Fighter and Family,” said Michael Dale, installation plan, program readiness integrator.

The Navy's installation excellence award program recognizes the top three large and top three small installations annually, based on the installation's performance in accordance with the command's strategic goals and the Office of the Secretary of Defense criteria for the DoD-wide Commander-in-Chief Installation Excellence Awards.

Capt. Jon Townsend, NAS Fort Worth JRB base commander, said winning this excellence award means that NAS Fort Worth JRB maintains the highest standards for a small installation, across all naval installations.

“It gives credit to the military and civilian service members across all branches of service who work every day to enable the warfighters and execute the mission of the base,” said Townsend.

NAS Fort Worth JRB first competed and won the IEA-small category for Navy Region Southeast Region. After, all the winning selectees in each category competed across the Commander, Navy Installation Command enterprise, and NAS Fort Worth JRB won at that level as well.

The IEA program gives installations a chance to share its accomplishments that may otherwise go un-noticed, said Dale.
A few accomplishments that led NAS Fort Worth JRB winning this year’s IEA include:

    - Mission Support: The installation supported specialized training, hosting the nation’s largest special operations command urban assault exercise, comprised of 40 aircraft, 400 paratroopers and 500 special operations personnel. - Unit Morale: The Shipmate-Shout-Out program was created, the first-of-its-kind, for the installation to recognize personnel excellence based entirely on the feedback from fellow peers.

    - The installation created a safety-first culture and established a new water rescue capability.

    - The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce awarded the installation with the Vandergriff Award, honoring the installation for contributions that have positively impacted Tarrant County on a national scale. Townsend said winning the IEA also is a tribute to the local Fort Worth civic leadership because of the unending support the installation receives annually.

“This naval air station joint reserve base, in the heart of North Texas, is a truly special place,” said Townsend, “I congratulate all hands for a job extremely well done!”
