Key leaders and general officers from different countries in Europe attended the 4th annual International Fires Warfighter Forum at the Allied Air Command Headquarters on Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Dec. 4-6, 2018.
The IFWF brings leaders of the Allied Fires community to talk about challenges, solutions and opportunities for all countries involved. The general expectation is that attendees leave better informed about the Fires related activities of their Allied peers, as well as how to influence and effect change.
US Army Lieutenant Colonel Matthew R. Arrol, 19th Battlefield Coordination Detachment Deputy Commanding Officer, talked about two initiatives that were discussed, “The first is the concept for a scalable, interoperable, Multi-National, Force Fires Headquarters. The second, is a targeted study on the challenges facing land forces in coordinating airspace within an increasingly congested and complex NATO context.”
“Events like the IFWF are a visible example of how those professionals, not only stay “razor-sharp” by keeping them abreast of emerging doctrine, lessons learned, and peer capabilities; but gives them a venue to regulate the profession by identifying and addressing shortfalls and opportunities that may negatively or positively impact their ability to accomplish their mission.”
The International Fires Warfighter Forum continues to grow each year. LTC Arrol also said, “This IFWF would not be possible without the support and cooperation of a lot of senior leaders from all components. A lot of the initiatives developed by the IFWF are advanced through the sponsorship of general officers who believe strongly in what we are doing and are willing to expend time and energy to promote fixes and improvements to the NATO Fires Enterprise.”
