Lt. Col. Charles M. Knoll, commander, Field Artillery Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment conducted a mass reenlistment ceremony of 36 Soldiers in the squadron motorpool on Rose Barracks, Germany, Nov. 8, 2018. The entire squadron and many family members were in attendance to witness and support the Soldiers who were reenlisting to further their military career.

In the month of October, the FA Squadron reenlisted 35 Soldiers. These Soldiers were granted a special set of incentives under the squadron’s “Retention Shock.” These Soldiers received the day of and day after their reenlistment ceremony off, two 4-day passes to be taken within the next 90 days, 60 days off from staff duty and charge of quarters and a coveted FA Squadron ”woobie.”

"During my time in 2CR I have been a forward observer attached to [the 3rd Squadron] so having the chance to reenlist with so many others in [the Field] Artillery Squadron was really awesome," said Spc. Gino Muoio, forward observer, 3/2CR, after reenlisting for an additional two years.

The retention shock was so successful, it lead to the squadron being the first in the regiment, and U.S. Army Europe, to complete its retention mission. The Soldiers reenlisted for a combined total of over 150 years, received $450,000 in retention bonuses and were part of one of the largest reenlistment ceremonies that the Regiment has recently seen.

The U.S. Army is currently looking to expand and reenlisting quality Soldiers is absolutely critical. A larger force will allow for distribution of the workload and facilitate the Army’s mission worldwide. The reenlisting Soldiers of the FA Squadron are proud to answer their country’s call to serve.

"I am honored to continue to serve,” said Staff Sgt. William Tazwell, fire direction center section chief, FA Squadron, 2CR, after having reenlisted for six additional years. “Moreover, I am grateful for the support of the Field Artillery Squadron and especially my family."
