Airmen of the 179th Airlift Wing gathered at the December unit training assembly, Dec. 8, attended the commanders All Call. The All Call provides an opportunity to review the annual accomplishments of the wing and recognize individuals as well.

The 179th Airlift Wing Outstanding Airmen of the Year award winners are:
Airman Tier -- Senior Airman Konnor Fink of Maintenance Group
Noncommissioned Officer Tier -- Tech. Sgt. Jason Reed of Mission Support Group
Senior Noncommissioned Officer Tier -- Master Sgt. Nicholas Wirwille of Mission Support Group
Company Grade Officer Tier -- Capt. Paul Stennett of Air Wing Headquarters

The winning Airmen will now compete at the state level to potentially earn the title of Outstanding Airman of the Year for the state of Ohio and then potentially at the national level for the entire Air National Guard.

The OAY award seeks to honor Airmen who go above and beyond their daily duties. Strong work ethic, community involvement, and leadership are some aspects that help judges determine who will represent the Air National Guard’s best for 2018.

Brig. Gen. Todd M. Audet, Ohio Air National Guard commander, attended the event and spoke highly of the 179th Airlift Wing saying “Remember, if you enjoy what you’re doing and I certainly hope you enjoy what you’re doing, that you thank your families, thank your community, thank your employers and you thank each other for the support you get to do your job.” Audet added, “We really count on you, what we do is very important and we couldn’t do it without you.”

Col. Allison C. Miller, 179th Airlift Wing commander, expressed gratitude to all members for their service over her first year in command.

“I firmly believe that we are stronger together,” said Miller. “That your success is our success and our success is your success. Your commanders, squadron commanders, flight commanders, everyone is truly excited to honor the moments that you as individuals have put together to form an incredible 12 months that we know as 2018.”

Stennett discussed his feelings after winning the CGO tier award. He credited his leadership and fellow Airmen for his success.

“I am grateful and humbled to be recognized as this year’s Company Grade Officer of the year,” said Stennett. “I believe it is a reflection of the outstanding work the entire Public Affairs Office accomplished, we all worked hard, raised the bar and were able to showcase all the hardworking Airmen that make the 179th Airlift Wing the exceptional unit it is to the rest of the world.”
