RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany – An 86th Security Forces Squadron patrolman received the honor of being Ramstein’s Airlifter of the Week, Dec. 6, 2018.
The 86th Airlift Wing commander and command chief lauded Senior Airman Cadairo Domino, 86th SFS installation patrolman, for his quick thinking and leadership.
In late October, Domino was performing entry controller duties when a vehicle pulled up with a pregnant mother in the passenger seat, who was in active labor.
After Domino swiftly analyzed the situation, he instructed the father to pull the car off to the side so traffic could continue flowing. He then coached the mother through breathing techniques to keep her calm.
“Then I contacted over the radio, ‘We need medical and fire en route, we’re delivering a baby at the gate,’” said Domino, recalling the scenario.
In the midst of the controlled chaos, Domino directed the two Airmen he was responsible for to man the gate while he assisted the couple.
Domino said he never expected something like this to happen, and he gained a lot of respect for mothers after his experience.
After the 86th AW commander coined him for his actions, Domino said he felt grateful.
“It’s humbling,” said Domino. “It makes me want to strive more.”
Domino’s biggest piece of advice to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation as him is to, “Stay calm and think before you move.”
