Army Maj. Gen. Timothy Orr, adjutant general of Iowa, was presented a WWI trench knife by Air Force Maj. Mark Williams, 132d Intelligence Group, and Maj. Jen Williams, Joint Forces Headquarters, November 20, 2018, at Iowa National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Johnston, Iowa.
The LF&C U.S. 1918 Trench Knife was presented as a solitary reminder of the hard battles fought and hellish conditions United States soldiers were asked to fight under. It was presented to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I from Mark and Jen who are graduates of Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in 2018.
“It was an honor and a privilege to share a piece of Army history with Maj. Gen. Orr in celebration of Armistice Day,” said Mark.
Mark and Jen represented two of only four Air National Guard majors selected for the joint in-residence graduate school located in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The class in partnership with the WWI Museum in Kansas City had an original World War I Trench Knife restored and presented it to the commandant of CGSC where it is now displayed.
