Get ready to be delighted by the sights and sounds of the holiday season during the upcoming weeks on both Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.

Finding activities to help bring on the Holiday spirit won’t be hard this season thanks to the many scheduled events that the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation has in store. From holiday lights, delectable treats, and visits with Santa Claus there will be a little something for everyone to enjoy.

The fun begins on Nov. 30 with a tree lighting and Trees for Troops. The merriment will kick off on Fort Stewart on Dec. 4 with their annual tree lighting. Two full weeks of festive fun will follow with Trees for Troops, a Winterfest at Holbrook Pond, Bowling with Santa events at both Marne and Stewart bowling centers, a Supper with Santa at Club Stewart and a Treats with Santa event at Hays Library.

“The best thing about the Holidays is that they bring families back together.” Said Cara Bates, DFMWR Special Events Coordinator, “Now that we have the majority of the Division home for the Holidays it gives everyone something fun to do to reintegrate their Families after deployment.”

Bates stated that the Directorate’s goal is to bring a winter wonderland theme down to Southeast Georgia, a location that is typically unseasonably warm during the holidays. “Our goal is to keep the magic of the holidays alive by incorporating the sights and sounds of the season into all of our events.” Bates said.

Some of the activities guests can look forward to include a letter writing station to Santa, visits with the big man himself, a festive hayride featuring thousands of Christmas lights, and a Christmas market, to name a few.

Anyone who has military identification can attend the events held on the main cantonment areas of both Stewart and Hunter. The Winterfest event at Holbrook is open to the public.
