KABUL, Afghanistan - The Afghan national police provided humanitarian aid to the village of Dizak in Farah province, Feb. 10, in an effort to assist villagers through the winter and establish a better relationship with the villagers.
The ANP, with assistance from Afghan Regional Security Integration Command - West mentors, departed Forward Operating Base Bala Baluk for the Dizak village with a five-ton truck loaded with food, clothing and winter supplies.
"There used to be a lot of fighting in the area but we established checkpoints and we started talking to the people, and now we have a good relationship and improved security," said Afghan national police chief Haji Khadada, who has worked in the area for more than a year. "If there is someone who wants to do something bad like plant a mine in the area, the villagers will let us know. That's how these humanitarian aid missions help."
Village members along with ANP officers unloaded the trucks and distributed supplies. Six thousand families living in the area benefitted from the aid.
The village of Dizak was selected for the aid assistance in an effort to improve security along Route 517 and assist villagers. The distribution was followed with a trip through the village so members of the ARSIC-W Commander's Emergency Response Program could assess water access and schools in the area.
