FCC/C10F Announces Sailors of the Year

FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. (NNS) – Three Sailors assigned to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) were recognized as the command’s Sailors of the Year for fiscal year 18.

Legalman 1st Class Victor Rolling, Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Arlen Scott, and Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Chad Gonzalez were selected as Senior Sailor, Junior Sailor and Blue Jacket of the Year respectively.

Sailors of the Year are chosen from a group of nominees by a board of more senior enlisted Sailors that convened this past October. They board reviewed the achievements of those who were nominated, their impact on the command, and how each performed during the oral board.

Rolling has been assigned as the Fleet Legalman at FCC/C10F for almost three years, and has dedicated extra hours to organizing heritage observance events and serving as the Vice President of the First Class Petty Officer Association.

“Thinking about representing this command as its Sailor of the Year means everything,” he said. “I came here only wanting only two things: I wanted to get my Enlisted Information Warfare pin, and I wanted to get senior enlisted mentorship. Leaving as the Sailor of the Year after getting everything I came here to get is like the decorations on an already beautiful cake.”

Rolling will now have to compete against petty officers from across 10th Fleet to determine who will be the domain’s Sailor of the Year.

“The Navy continues to expect more from each of its Sailors and these three are a great example of what the Navy is looking for. They are experts in their ratings and always step up to ensure the staff and their fellow Sailors succeed,” said Master Chief Cryptologic Technician (Technician) Michael Smith, FCC/C10F senior enlisted leader. “Fleet Cyber Command is made up of some of the Navy’s most dedicated and professional Sailors and its important recognize individuals when they stand out.”

Since its establishment, FCC/C10F has grown into an operational force composed of more than 14,000 Active and Reserve Sailors and civilians organized into 28 active commands, 40 Cyber Mission Force units, and 26 reserve commands around the globe. FCC serves as the Navy component command to U.S. Strategic Command and U.S. Cyber Command, and the Navy's Service Cryptologic Component commander under the National Security Agency/Central Security Service. C10F, the operational arm of FCC, executes its mission through a task force structure similar to other warfare commanders. In this role, C10F provides support of Navy and joint missions in cyber/networks, cryptologic/signals intelligence and space.
