    Story by Cpl. Vivien Alstad

Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

We caught up with Pvt. Hailey Paisker last week during 4th Recruit Training Battalion’s Field Meet. Paisker, who had finished the 54-hour Crucible event the day prior, ran through the obstacle course and then executed 15 cadence pull-ups. Paisker spoke about her motivations during the field meet and her thoughts on the new physical fitness standards coming in January that require female Marines to execute 11 pull-ups to achieve a maximum score.

I was just thinking that I needed to beat everyone else. There’s a lot of motivation out here. When I joined the Marine Corps, I was already prepared for the standards. I came in already doing 15 pull ups. I love the new standards because they really make you push yourself and prove that the women are just as good as the males.
