“I lived in base housing and my house didn’t get too much damage, so I was lucky. When I first got back, I was wondering whether or not I’d be able to get our systems up and running. It looked like a lot of our stuff took a lot of damage. The destruction was catastrophic. It was the dark ages when we first got here. The communications squadron had a big part in getting everything up and running in the first place, and combat communications gave us a lot of help when they came in. We were able to build off of their system. I’ve gotten to do stuff you normally wouldn’t get to do. I’ve gotten to go around and see all the different squadrons in action, working together, and doing more hands-on things. While the workload has eased up since the first week, we’re definitely getting stuff done. I’ve seen the makings of some new systems that look like they’re going to improve upon where we were before. The base has a chance to rebuild and be better than we were before.”
