WOMACK ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, FORT BRAGG, N.C. – More than 800 retirees and their family members attended this year’s Fort Bragg Military Retiree Appreciation Day at Womack Army Medical Center October 20.
This was a two-day event that began with a town hall from the Fort Bragg garrison commander October 19.
RAD also included a variety of activities, like a Veterans Affairs Information Brief, a golf tournament and bowling.
During the second day, Womack opened the hospital for retirees and their families only. Womack provided preventive screenings, immunizations, and various medical and nonmedical information tables.
James W. Wentworth, a Fort Bragg retired sergeant major, expressed his appreciation of the day’s events. “Retiree Appreciation Day is fantastic! All retirees should attend it.”
The Fort Bragg Soldier Support Center was also open for ID cards and legal services.
Annually, RAD provides updated information to retirees regarding their benefits and services.
Josephina Mercado, spouse of retired MSG Mike Mercado, touts on the services provided during the RAD.
“We come every year to get his eyes checked because he is diabetic. It’s a really good service that the Army does for us.”
Donnell Edwards, chief of Fort Bragg Retirement Services Office, explained how the main goal of the annual retiree appreciation day is to entice the retirees and their families to come out and be recognized.
“We want to thank them for their service. They are considered our retired Soldiers…Soldiers for LIFE!”

The 2019 RAD will be scheduled for mid October.
