BASRA, Iraq – Iraqi elections are complete and they went off without any problems in the As Sarraji and Al Amtahiya neighborhoods in Basra on Saturday.
This sector's security is the responsibility of the 1st Battalion, Basra Brigade, 4th National Police Division, who increased patrols in the area, Jan. 27, in preparation for national elections.
"There were no problems in our area because of our early patrols, a good election day security plan and a strong relationship with the community," said Brig. Gen. Nabeel Laman Al-Ubodi, commander of the Basra Brigade.
"All of this was done because the NP wanted the people to feel safe enough to go out and vote," said Al-Ubodi. "Now the NP must be prepared for the release of the voting results later this month. Some of the parties will not be happy that they lost. They might blame the government and the coalition." Al-Ubodi said his unit will be prepared for any trouble.
