JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — An Alaska Air National Guard rescue team helped a hiker with a serious leg injury the evening of Oct. 8 from an area north of Skilak Lake.

The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center at JBER was contacted by the Alaska State Troopers with a request for assistance due to the need for a hoist assisted night vision rescue.

An HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter and aircrew from the Air Guard’s 210th Rescue Squadron and pararescuemen from the 212th Rescue Squadron, departed JBER at approximately 9 p.m. and dropped off the female hiker at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage at about 10:30 p.m.

The hiker was injured about 1 ½ miles down Lookout Trail.

The RCC, 210th, 211th and 212th Rescue Squadrons were awarded one save for this mission.
