MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. (October 14, 2018)--The 134th Medical Group came together to welcome their new commander, Lt. Col. Lisa Godsey, as she assumed command from Col. Jeff King here Oct. 13.

Col. Lee Hartley, 134th Air Refueling Wing commander, started the ceremony off with opening remarks about both individuals.

“The one word that comes to my mind over and over again about these two individuals is “selfless,” said Hartley. “If you look at them and you do not see somebody to look up to, then there is nobody in this world that you will look up to.”

Before relinquishing command, Col. King thanked his family, mentors and the 134th Medical Group, whom he referred to as his second family.

“The only way I got to where I am at is by having good people around me,” said King. “I don’t think that anyone represents that more than Lt. Col. Godsey. She’s touched the lives of practically everyone on this base and she gives her life to make sure everyone on this base is okay and safe.”

Immediately following the Change of Command ceremony, the Medical Group also celebrated the promotion of Godsey to the rank of colonel.

Godsey said she had a wealth of emotions about the day’s events and she thanked everyone for attending.

“My personal gratitude goes out to all the people who have taken the time to mentor, develop and motivate me over the years,” said Godsey. “I have been incredibly blessed to have role models throughout my career that saw things in me that I didn’t even see in myself.”

Godsey has 33 years of military service. She came to McGhee Tyson ANGB in 1991 as an enlisted member. Godsey commissioned in 1999, and has served in many different leadership roles around the base. Her most recent role was commander of the 134th Mission Support Group. Godsey also previously served as the wing executive officer, a public affairs officer and 12 years as deputy commander of the 134th Medical Group.

Godsey said the medical group’s 24/7 approach to taking care of Airmen is key to who they are as a Wing.

“Today’s change of command truly represents their legacy,” said Godsey. “Commanders will come and go over the years, but it is your commitment and selfless dedication to the men and women of this wing that we truly celebrate today.”
