    Fitness for the fallen

Story by Staff Sgt. Eli Velazquez

United States Army Special Operations Command

FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Behind an old Ft. Bragg building, on a hot and humid North Carolina morning, approximately 30 service members from the Army Special Operations community shed some blood, sweat, and half-digested breakfast for a good cause.

U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, hosts a monthly Warrior physical fitness challenge during physical training hours, in recognition of those in the Army Special Operations community who gave their all.

This workout in particular, HHC 1st Sgt., Dimitry Lobanov, wanted to highlight fallen 10th Special Forces Group Soldiers, specifically, those who lost their lives within the last two years.

"We honor the sacrifices of our fallen through observances and ceremonies, but we want to come together to give a little more," Lobanov said.

The service members pair up in teams and run the gauntlet of 12 exercise stations. They range between a two-minute flat out battle rope drill, to wrestling a 10-foot log weighing between 80 to 100 pounds.

The PT doesn't just build camaraderie, and esprit de corps, but it also prepares the soldiers for the new Army Physical Fitness Test, expected to roll out by late 2020.
