Story by Staff Sgt. James Bentley

    117th Air Refueling Wing

Airmen from the 117th Security Forces Squadron partnered with approximately eight other agencies to prepare for a variety of emergency scenarios.
Participants practiced pursuit and engagement with armed suspects, administering emergency first aid, civilian evacuation, managing a hostage scenario and extracting a downed officer. JFCC student volunteers used moulage, or realistic mock-injury makeup, to play the role of downed civilians in need of first aid. Other volunteers wore padding and fired at trainees with Simunition, a nonlethal training ammunition that provides a safe but realistic alternative to live fire.
“We go towards the sounds of bullets,” said Capt. James Parker, 117th Security Forces Squadron Commander. “Every time you hear a gunshot, that is potentially someone losing their life.”
Participants received immediate feedback from instructors as they went through each scenario.
“The importance of this particular one was not just going in and doing the procedures. It was start to finish, including the aftermath,” said Capt. Parker. “We went in and started to patch people up and debrief after the fact. My guys normally don’t see that side of it.”
