SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras - Army Support Activity Soto Cano Air Base held a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new Continuing Education Services Center at Soto Cano Air Base, September 20, 2018.

The ceremony was presided by Lt. Col. Martin Jennings, Joint Task Force Bravo deputy commander and Ms. Sabrina Geraldo, Education Services Officer from Fort Campbell Kentucky. Ms. Kathryn Miller, deputy to the garrison commander hosted the inauguration ceremony for the new building.

“This ribbon cutting celebrates the culmination of years of advocacy, planning, preparation and finally construction,” said Ms. Miller. “The new facility stands to serve the Soto Cano community and educating all of our service members, and we hope it will become a place of learning and growth.”

The ceremony was held at the E-18 building entrance followed by an education fair. Participating schools included Austin Peay State University, Trident University International, Columbia Southern University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

The 25,000 square feet facility replaces a 32 year old wooden complex and contains brand new equipment and furniture. The building has classrooms, testing center and offices that will help service members feel comfortable during their training needs.

“It’s been a long 32 years with the old building. It’s been a challenge but now we have more opportunities for service members at Soto Cano where they can access facilities and train in a new environment as they deserve,” said Ms. Sandra Zambrano, Joint Education Services specialist.

During her speech, Ms. Miller also thanked the Directorate of Public Works, Ms. Ana Arteaga the DPW Chief Engineer, Mr. Ivan Oliviera from the Corps of Engineers, and the 612th Air Base Squadron for their support in accomplishing this project.

Building E18 is now open to service members and the Soto Cano community.
