CAMP LIBERTY, Iraq- I bet you never thought that any part of finance could be a one-man show. Well, for the finance on Victory Base Complex, that's exactly what we have for the Debt Management and Special Actions section.

Debt Management and Special Actions are extremely important to finance's mission in Iraq. Debt Management assists in the collection of money owed to the Department of Defense, departments and agencies of the U.S. and its instrumentalities without placing any undue financial hardship on the service member. Special Actions assist with duty status changes by working in conjunction with the S-1, JAG and Confinement Liaisons.

This one man show is none other than Delta Det., 101st Finance Company's Spc. Charles Richardson of Montgomery, Ala. As the Debt Management and Special Actions Sections non-commissioned officer in charge for Delta Detachment, 101st Finance Company, 10th Sustainment Brigade Troops Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, Richardson ensures proper and expedient handling of Soldiers' duty statuses, punishments given by Article 15, results from a trial by court martial and corrections of time in service. Richardson ensures each situation is handled personally and professionally. His dedication to his work and to his customers is outstanding. He treats everyone's pay issues from the lowest enlisted to the highest officer with the same urgency.

Richardson has gone above and beyond his assigned duties by taking charge of all the finance re-deployment briefings given to the Soldiers on Camp Liberty as well as Camp Victory. He tracks and coordinates each briefing and makes sure the brief suits the type and size of the unit. Richardson also conducts the briefs to ensure Soldiers returning home are given the financial information they need for a smooth transition back to the rear. Along with conducting these briefings, he brings a junior Soldier with him so he or she can also learn how to conduct these briefings. He also designed the PowerPoint slideshow which is now used for all briefings on Camp Liberty and Camp Victory. This slideshow has turned into the main training for all S-1 PAC clerks and other units as a knowledgeable resource for unit commanders to train their Soldiers.

Richardson has been responsible for the payments of more than $3.1 million in bonus payments thus far. His responsibilities do not stop when it comes to his particular job, but ranges from being a trainer of coding and customer service, all the way to assistant squad leader. His knowledge is only one attribute he brings to finance. His outgoing personality never allows the office to be in turmoil. His social attitude sets up a great atmosphere between finance clerks and customers alike.
