News: 8th Iraqi Army Division commander named Man of the Year

DIWANIYA, Iraq – The commander of the 8th Iraqi Army Division received the Diwaniya Man of the Year award at the division headquarters, Jan. 21.
Lt. Gen. Ali Salih Farhood Oothman received the award from the non-governmental organizations of Diwaniya province for his success in establishing and maintaining security in the once-troubled area.
Oothman's courage, duty and dedicated service to the people of Diwaniya and Iraq were critical for the establishment of peace and growing prosperity the province now enjoys, said Beder Mozan Jabber, head of National Relief Education and also head manager of all civil service organizations in Diwaniya.
"On behalf of the NGOs, we want to thank (Lt.) Gen. Oothman for all that he has done in service to his people," said Jabber. He also congratulated Oothman on his recent promotion.
Iraqi citizens and Soldiers representing the IA and coalition forces were all present for the ceremony and celebration.
"It fills me with a great deal of honor that the NGOs of Diwaniya province dedicate this great title upon me," said Oothman, through a translator.
He addressed the audience, stating that Diwaniya was recently plagued with criminals and terrorists, but through the brave and steady efforts of the Iraqi security forces, the local government and the citizens, that Diwaniya now enjoys peace.
"Now, we are gathering the results of freedom for all the Iraqi people and will build a new and greater Iraq together," said Oothman. He also stated that the ISF remains dedicated and will keep the Iraqi people safe during the upcoming elections. Working together, the ISF, the government and the people will continue to thwart the enemies of Iraq and the voices of the citizens will be heard in the provincial elections.
"I am proud of this award and we of the Iraqi army promise our good people of Diwaniya and all of Iraq, that we are, and always will be, here for the Iraqi people and will fight for them and sacrifice for them. Peace on you and God bless you."
