JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Approximately two dozen Soldiers assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment, 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade, 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, returned from a successful
yearlong deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in June and July.
The Soldiers’ mission was to operate the AH-64 Apache, an aircraft designed to conduct armed reconnaissance, close combat, mobile strike, and vertical maneuver missions when required, in day, night, obscured battlefield, and adverse weather conditions.
They joined with companies in the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment from the South Carolina Army National Guard to form a task force that provided aviation capabilities with AH-64 Apaches, UH-60 Black Hawks, CH-47 Chinooks, and medevac assets. The Soldiers operated on two separate bases.
“C Co 1-151 achieved exceptional success in conducting required and rapidly executing assigned combat missions," said C Company, 151st Aviation Regiment 1st Sgt. Brett Miller, "The professionalism and technical abilities portrayed by both pilots and technicians alike proved crucial in the safe accomplishment of all requirements placed upon the unit. Their combined efforts and expertise were apparent and relied upon by operational planners and ground forces."
