HULMAN FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Indiana – The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce held its 105th annual meeting August 23, 2018, where Colonel Christopher Alderdice, commander of the 181st Intelligence Wing, inducted local community leaders as honorary commanders.
The goal of the Honorary Commander Program is to build and maintain a strong and lasting bond between the 181st IW and surrounding communities, while exposing community leaders to the missions of the 181st IW and the important role of today’s military.
“This inaugural class of honorary commanders represents what makes this community great,” said Alderdice. “The 181st Intelligence Wing is committed to building positive relationships with the communities surrounding the base, and this program serves as another way of demonstrating these relationships are vital to our mission success.”
The Honorary Commanders Program serves as an opportunity to educate key community leaders about the innovative missions of the 181st IW, foster a supportive relationship with the community, increase military involvement in civic endeavors and organizations, and demonstrate the community is part of the 181st IW.
The honorary commanders are partnered with 181st IW commanders. The military commanders invite their civilian counterpart to unit functions, allowing the honorary commander to observe their duties and the missions/operations of the 181st IW.
The honorary commanders are also invited throughout the year to on-base functions and special events. Honorary commanders are encouraged to invite their counterpart to their functions and to learn about their professions.
The class of 2018 includes Dottie King, Rob Lundstrom, Lea Anne Crooks, Judge John Roach, David Patterson, Josh Zuerner, Jim Winning, Bob Baesler, Patrick Ralston, Rick Burger, and Kevin Caldwell (not in attendance).
