CRIPPLE CREEK, Colorado. - Two names were added to the Cripple Creek Veterans memorial that stands at the front of Mt. Pisgah Cemetery August 19, 2018.

Every year Cripple Creek honors fallen service members of our nations military by holding a memorial ceremony the day after The Salute to American Veterans Rally. The granite walls of the memorial contain the names of those brave men and women from the beginning of the war on terror in 2001. These service members either served in Teller, El Paso County or where graduates of the Air Force Academy.

Col. Thomas Vogel and Command Sgt. Maj. Rolf Jensen along with the Soldiers and their family members from 10th Group attended the memorial to pay respects and honor their team members who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"It is wonderful so see a community go out of its way and do so much for those Soldiers from 10th SFG(A) who we've lost," Jensen said. "It helps bring closeness between this wonderful mountain community, which some may think is distanced or detached from Colorado Springs and Fort Carson and our unit. This is the second time I've attended the memorial and its so wonderfully done; the extraordinary speakers, the procession, the community involvement, the police escort, the fallen its extremely well done. I was involved with ensuring our unit as a whole knew of the memorial this year because i wanted more of our Soldiers to see how this community supports our unit and units within the Pikes Peak region."

This year three names were added to the memorial U.S. Airforce Capt. Mark K. Weber and U.S. Army service member's Sgt. 1st Class Stephen B. Cribben and Sgt. 1st Class Mihail Golin from 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Col. Vogel a first time attendee to the memorial was impressed with the solemnness and honor that the memorial ceremony showed to our fallen service members.

The Cripple Creek Memorial impressed me as a beautiful and solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by our local fallen and their families," Vogel said. "It means a great deal to have an accessible memorial in the mountains that we love. We cannot fully remember our fallen or heal alone, for that we need a supportive community and we a grateful for the people of Cripple Creek."

Cripple Creek has held the War on Terror memorial every year for the past 12 years. The one person most responsible for the memorial being erected in Cripple Creek is Vietnam veteran Army Col. (Ret.) Bill Mc Pherson.

"We did not want service members who are fighting America's War on Terrorism to be forgotten," said Mc Pherson.
