CRANE, Ind. – Crane Army Ammunition Activity hosted Col. Michelle Letcher, commander of Joint Munitions Command, August 15, presenting a strong overview of how Crane Army delivers lethality to the Warfighter.
During her visit, the JMC Commander saw Crane Army’s unique value to the overall National Defense Strategy, Department of Defense, U.S. Army and the Organic Industrial Base. She toured production facilities, viewed plans for modernization and observed how Crane employees work every day to ensure munitions readiness.
“Today’s visit reinforced the impression I had from afar of a professional organization that delivers lethality through their efficiency and continuous process improvement, but mostly through a work force that demonstrates an ethic of excellence,” Letcher said.
Letcher recognized that moving ammunition all over the globe at the right time with precision is not an easy process. CAAA employees manage all facets of ammunition, including storage, quality control, shipment preparation, distribution, production and demilitarization in order to ensure Warfighters have the right ammo at the right time.
"It's not lost on me that there is a lot of hard work done by a lot of people that goes into fixing complex problems,” Letcher said.
While viewing Crane Army’s depot operations facilities Letcher spoke with CAAA employees about their efforts for U.S. troops.
“For me it is all about shipping,” Material Handling Supervisor Steve Smiley said. “It is all about getting that ammo to the Warfighter.”
Crane Army Ammunition Activity produces and provides conventional munitions requirements in support of U.S. Army and Joint Force readiness. It is one of 14 installations of the Joint Munitions Command and one of 23 organic industrial base installations under the U.S. Army Materiel Command, which include arsenals, depots, activities and ammunition plants.
