Installation Management Command’s annual conference for housing professionals, termed Housing the Force, will be held on Fort Stewart on Aug. 27-30, at Club Stewart.
Approximately 300 military housing professionals will meet to network and learn about industry trends and best practices in the military family housing industry.
Training will cover a variety of subjects such as manpower mapping, budget management, compliance process and reporting and several other topics.
The four-day training event includes 36 classes, brown bag sessions and team building activities.
Housing representatives from all over the globe to include Europe and Asia are set to attend. Attendees will get the opportunity to share notes on experiences unique to their field, what to do, what not to do, what works and what doesn’t.
“We are bringing in a little over 300 housing professionals from around the world,” Doug Delzeith, Housing Service Office Supervisor said. “They will gather together to talk about new things that are happening in the housing world. Whether it be on post housing or off post housing, the housing service office or even company housing. So we bring these professions together basically to network, and share lessons learned within this group of professionals.”
The conference was held on Fort Riley for the past two years. So when Delzeith and Andrew Williams, planners for this event, were told that the 2018 conference would be hosted by Fort Stewart, they got to work. The event planning process that began over a year ago started as ideas written on a whiteboard. Those ideas will come to fruition in just a week’s time.
“So it (the conference) does rotate around the entire Military spectrum so everyone has the opportunity to show off their installation,” said Delzeith. “This is our opportunity.”
Delzeith and Williams also took this opportunity to ensure that Georgia stays on the minds of participants by scheduling tours to the historic Savannah area during their down time.
“We want to give them the ambiance of Coastal Georgia. So we have that flavor intertwined throughout activities the entire week,” said Delzeith. “They’re going to work all day in class but we want to make sure that they enjoy themselves. When they leave here they’ll have a little bit of a recollection of what living in Coastal Georgia is all about. And of course, really to show them Fort Stewart.”
