MARPI, Saipan –Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 5, Det. Marianas and members of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services (CNMI DFEMS) disposed of approximately 2,000 pounds of unexploded ordnance on August 6 - 10, 2018.
“The chance to learn and exchange information with CNMI DFEMS was invaluable,” said Lt. Mark Snyder, from Virginia Beach, Virginia. “It was a great opportunity to work together and we look forward to continued opportunities to build our partnership with CNMI DFEMS.”
Sailors and CNMI DFEMS members had the opportunity to exchange knowledge throughout the 5-day emergency response effort.
“We learned a lot about detonation cords, blasting caps and how the explosions are contained,” said Fire Fighter 1 Carson Tarkong. “It was a great experience for all of us and fun to work with the EOD guys.”
EODMU-5 Detachment Marianas works in direct support of JRM providing EOD support and services throughout the region. EODMU-5 is assigned to Commander, Task Force 75, the primary expeditionary task force responsible for the planning and execution of coastal riverine operations, explosive ordnance disposal, diving engineering and construction, and underwater construction in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
