NAVAL STATION GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba – Joint Task Force Guantanamo Troopers participated in the first “Do You Even GTMO?” Challenge, a competitive obstacle course, as a part of the Joint Stress Mitigation and Restoration Team’s Self-Care Saturdays, May 12.
The recreational event utilized resources from all over NAVSTA in a collaborative effort between JSMART and the Joint Medical Group’s Behavioral Health Unit to create a holistic approach to wellness and promote Navy Morale, Welfare & Recreation Guantanamo Bay by increasing JTF Troopers’ knowledge and awareness of recreational activities located on the base.
The event organizer shared why the challenge was created for JTF Troopers.
“People often need an outlet when they’re away from family and friends,” she said, “and recreation is an excellent way to revitalize, especially in a deployed atmosphere.”
The challenge was comprised of seven competitive activities, including memory games, a corn-hole toss, and a flipper race. JSMART plans to host the “Do You Even GTMO?” Challenge monthly.
