Maj. Gen. Patrick Matlock, commander of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, presided over the ceremony. During his remarks, he commended the leadership of Command Sgt. Maj. Day during his time as the command’s senior enlisted advisor.
“Command Sgt. Maj. Day’s contributions cannot be overstated at every level across this great division and installation, he said.” “He set the standard and made us a better team. I speak for all of the leaders of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss when I say thank you with our deepest gratitude for your leadership of our team.”
During his 33 months as the senior enlisted advisor, Command Sgt. Maj. Day brought his years of experience to redefine the “Old Ironsides” as a premiere warfighting division, and he helped lead the command to oversee operations in Iraq to support train and advise Iraqi Security Forces in support of Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command-Operation Inherent Resolve.
“I’m proud to call myself an Iron Soldier. It has been an honor to serve you,” he said. “I leave this position humbled and inspired by your devotion and duty to service.”
Command Sgt. Maj. Day also wished his successor luck in the position and said he was the right person to lead the 1st Armored Division.
Command Sgt. Maj. Cobb comes to America’s Tank Division after completing a tour as the senior enlisted leader of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, N.C.
“The Soldiers standing on this field today are the lifeblood of this division, and they are the best and brightest America has to offer,” he said. “I am proud to have been selected to serve as the command sergeant major of this storied division and the senior enlisted leader of Fort Bliss.”
“I look forward to standing side-by-side with you and writing the next chapter in our proud history, he added”
